The borehole that almost divided two villages
When a new borehole was sited on a disputed boundary, a local peace committee got both villages talking before anyone reached for a weapon.
Quaker Peace Initiatives Kenya
A network of Quakers working for peace under the auspices of the Change Agent Peace Program (CAPP). We bring communities, faith leaders and young people together to settle conflict without violence.
Our mandate
Quaker Peace Initiatives Kenya's core mandate and activities are premised on peacebuilding and conflict transformation at the local, national and regional levels. We provide an implementing, collaborative and coordinating platform for the different community efforts in peacebuilding around the country.
A stable and peaceful society that upholds social justice, peace, equity and development.
To facilitate, advocate and coordinate broad-based peace and development initiatives for the peaceful co-existence of Kenyan communities.
We are guided by inclusiveness, peace, simplicity, community and neutrality.

About us
QPI was born in September 2014 out of a national network of Quakers working for peace under the Change Agent Peace Program (CAPP).
CAPP is a long-held peace caravan driven by Quakers and Quaker-led organisations around the country, with roots in the early 2000s. QPI registered in January 2016 and received its NGO certificate on 27 May 2016, grounded in the Quaker Peace Testimony.
What we do

Bringing neighbours in conflict to the same table before disputes turn violent.

Helping young people lead peace in their schools and estates, through sport, theatre and mentoring.

Watching for the warning signs of electoral violence and responding before it spreads.

Backing women peacebuilders and responding to gender-based violence in conflict.

Carrying community voices on peace and human rights to county, national and UN forums.

Our approach
We apply diverse conflict response mechanisms towards conflict transformation. Kenya is diverse and so are its conflicts, so a single, one-size-fits-all approach would be counterproductive.
Impact
When a new borehole was sited on a disputed boundary, a local peace committee got both villages talking before anyone reached for a weapon.
A peace club tournament brought together young people from two estates that had not played each other in years.
After a dispute between traders turned physical, a network of women mediators brought both sides back to the market together.
Our values
QPI grew from a national network of Quakers working for peace. Five values guide how we work.
Everyone affected by a conflict has a seat at the table.
Violence is never the answer, and there is always another way.
Plain dealing, modest means, money spent where it matters.
Lasting peace is built by neighbours, not delivered to them.
We take the side of peace, never of a party or faction.
